How can I curb my urge to snack? It’s worse during winter, when all I seem to want is high-sugar foods. Pip, 37

Include a source of protein, fibre and healthy fats with every meal to keep you feeling full, and include lots of veggies at every meal as they are low in energy and high in nutrients and bulk out your meals. This will help balance blood sugar levels and prevent the urge to snack. Don’t give yourself a hard time if you enjoy a little of what you fancy and have the odd bit of chocolate here and there, but at least make it a mindful moment and savour each mouthful. Try to keep yourself busy during the long evenings and get rid of all the junk from the cupboards – if it isn’t there, you won’t be tempted.
