Radio and TV presenter Amanda Holden, 50, talks about her beauty secrets, positive outlook on life and why life is too short to diet…

‘Even in the early mornings on my way to Heart Radio, I make sure I am made up as I’m often papped on the way into the studio. I like to make sure I’ve got my lashes on and I’m camera ready. I don’t even think of it as vanity, but as looking after myself.

‘I have to get up very early, so I make sure my skincare routine is all laid out before I go to bed. When it comes to what I slather onto my face, I mix it up as I believe sticking to the same products is not great. I swear by Dr Barbara Sturm products and the Dr LEVY Intense Stem Cell Booster Cream (£290,cultbeauty.co.uk). The quicker I can apply the products the better as I’d rather get extra minutes of sleep.

‘I am a brand ambassador for Revive Collagen and it is something I truly believe in. The product has a great-tasting tropical flavour, without any added sugars, and it helps improve my skin, hair and nails. I also love that it contains vitamins B6, B12, C and D, so I don’t need to worry about taking any additional supplements.

‘Since taking Revive, I’ve definitely noticed an extra glow to my complexion.’

‘It also contains retinol – the ultimate anti-ageing skincare ingredient – while the vitamin C helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. Since taking Revive, I’ve definitely noticed an extra glow to my complexion. I am not a fan of pills or capsules because the body has to break them down, so I like using a liquid and the sachets are handy for being on the go

‘I certainly defy any stereotype of “middle age”. Who says that once you reach a certain age you have to dress a certain way, act a certain way? I don’t believe in those rules. You do what makes you happy, and, to be honest, I am at a stage in my life where I don’t care what other people think. I just go out there and smile.

‘I really dislike the notion that a woman turning 50 has her best days behind her. That’s such a load of rubbish. Look at my close friends Davina McCall and Kelly Hoppen; they are amazing, doing so well in their careers and look really hot!

‘My husband, Chris, is my absolute rock and I must be a nightmare for him sometimes because I am strident and forthright. Growing up I had two amazing grandmothers. They were very strong women and that is where I get my work ethic. I have always loved to be busy and my mum, Judy, also drilled that into me; work hard and be a strong, independent woman. They’re traits all the women in my family share – much to the men’s dismay!

‘By working hard, I hope my daughters will also look up to me. I think it is an important life lesson to teach them. “Speak up and be strong” is my mantra. I have so much energy, which is a good thing as I am always on the go. I can’t ever complain I’m knackered as I know how fortunate I am to do the work I do, plus I have no time for wallowing.

Amanda Holden: ‘I’m always optimistic. I am not one to have self-pity. When I broke my leg, I just got on with it.’

‘I’m always optimistic. I am not one to have self-pity. When I broke my leg, I just got on with it – my nan would always say, “go out with your head up, a smile on and looking good”. It’s just who I am. Even the knee scooter I had to use during my recovery, I turned into a fashion accessory. In fact, I think they sold out on the back of it!

‘I’m not a huge fan of exercise as my schedule is very busy, but I try to go for a run three times a week. Only for 36 minutes, so I just get it over and done with! But it is the one time when I can be alone with my thoughts and it helps clear my head. On holiday, I try to swim when I can and also fit in some yoga.

Amanda Holden: ‘Life is for living, so I believe everything in moderation. Life is too short to be strict.’

‘I joke about my love of alcohol but honestly when I say I exercise to drink, it is true! I can balance one off against the other. I love wine, but I also drink a lot of water as I know it is good for my body and skin. I’m not one of those people who follows fad diets or someone who removes certain foods from my diet. Life is for living, so I believe everything in moderation. Life is too short to be strict.’
