Skincare that supports wellbeing
This year it’s all about finding skincare and beauty products that not only make you look good but feel good too and increase your overall vitality. Formulas that enhance your wellbeing, such as those containing adaptogens – think stress-modulating ashwagandha, calming reishi mushroom, or energising ginseng – will be popular. ‘Beauty routines will evolve to align with the fast-paced lifestyle many of us lead, with products that support healthy sleep patterns, daily energy levels, and overall wellness. Brands that can seamlessly combine beauty with wellness will capture the attention of a growing demographic that views health and beauty as interconnected,’ says Zoe Boikou, founder of Zoeva Cosmetics (zoevacosmetics.co.uk).
‘Adaptogens, known for their stress-relieving properties, are gaining popularity as they help the body cope with stress while also enhancing skin health. These ingredients are becoming central in holistic skincare routines, offering a balanced approach to beauty and wellness,’ adds Dr Adel Rammal, chief scientific officer of Indeed Laboratories (indeedlabs.com)
Colour psychology in beauty
Dopamine dressing and colour psychology have long been applicable to fashion, with bold, bright colours helping boost your mood. Now, that spreads into the world of beauty. ‘We’ll see playful colours and application used to give a fresh appearance. Pastels and brights will be seen on eyes and lips, with textures ranging from a wash of colour to full bursts depending on the wearer’s confidence levels,’ says Ruby Hammer MBE, make-up artist and founder of Ruby Hammer Beauty (rubyhammer.com)
Continuation of “Skinimalism”
Minimalist skincare, aka “skinimalism” emphasises simplicity by using fewer, though highly potent, skincare products. ‘Instead of lengthy, multi-product routines, consumers are turning to multi-functional products that give multiple benefits, such as hydration, sun protection and antioxidants in one formula,’ says Dr Rammal of Indeed Laboratories.

Beauty tech on the rise
The integration of technology into beauty routines is now mainstream, with more consumers turning to digital tools to track and understand their skin’s health. Skin-scanning apps, AI-powered diagnostic tools and wearable tech will continue to provide personalised skincare recommendations, helping you to monitor your skin over time. ‘Advanced technology will allow you to fine-tune your routine by pinpointing changes in moisture, elasticity and other metrics, enabling you to choose products that deliver precisely what your skin needs. This fusion of beauty and tech will lead to more tailored skincare experiences, where results are optimised through data-driven insights,’ says Zoe.
And there’ll be even greater personalisation, fuelled by advancements in AI and skin analysis technologies. ‘Additionally, tech-driven devices such as LED masks and microcurrent tools will bring professional-quality treatments directly into the home,’ adds Dr Rammal.
Microbiome health
This year there will be even more awareness about the importance of skin pH, and why so many traditional products make skin too alkaline. An increasing number of brands are making formulas that nurture skin health rather than strip skin of its natural moisture. ‘The term “microbiome” will become more mainstream as consumers become aware of the benefits of protecting their skin’s outer layer from environmental threats. We have already seen momentum from Korean brands that focus on formulas taking a more holistic approach – nourishing the skin rather than treating it,’ says Dimitra Davidson, founder of Indeed Laboratories (indeedlabs.com).
‘Probiotic and microbiome-friendly formulations are designed to fortify the skin barrier, boost hydration, and alleviate inflammation,’ adds Dr Rammal.

A boost for bodycare
The boom in bodycare products continues as ingredients traditionally reserved for the face make their way into body formulations. Hyaluronic acid, peptides, ceramides, and active botanicals are now found in lots of body formulas. ‘We’re calling this “skinification” as the body is now receiving the same treatment as the face,’ says Katy Cottam, founder and CEO of Luna Daily (lunda-daily.com). ‘This shift reflects consumers’ growing understanding that body skin requires just as much attention and tailored care as the face, driving an expansion in bodycare ranges with targeted, results-driven products.’

Face basting
Face Basting – the next-gen evolution of “slugging” – is inspired by US-based board-certified dermatologist Dr Shereene Idriss, and is a moisturising technique to supercharge your skin barrier’s recovery. In essence, you baste your face in zinc oxide-based nappy rash cream as the final step in your skincare, locking in hydration overnight. ‘Zinc oxide’s anti-inflammatory properties help to calm and soothe dry, inflamed, irritated skin. It’s barrier repair reimagined, for those who want breakthrough results and double duty products,’ says Dr Shereene, a leading expert in facial aesthetics and founder of Dr Idriss Skincare (dridriss.com).
And you can do it just on your lips too to combat dry, flaky skin. ‘First, buff your lips with a light chemical exfoliant rather than a physical scrub, which can do more damage than good. Next, apply a thick layer of a rich ointment, basting your lips like a thanksgiving turkey until the product fully melts in to reveal hydrated, plump, juicy lips,’ says Dr Idriss.

The acid test
The pH of your skin is also a consideration. Most soaps and cleansers are alkaline, whereas skin needs to be mildly acidic (around 4-5pH). Anything foaming tends to strip skin, whereas balm and oil cleansers are gentler. ‘Another reason to keep your skin acidic is that if you continually strip away the moisture and make it alkaline. By washing too much and using harsh products, you’ll actually age faster,’ says skincare expert Karen Sinclair Drake (floweringpharmacy.com).
